This year I am modeling my Literacy Block (Reading/Writing time) after the books The Daily 5 and The CAFE Book. Both books are written by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. They are also affectionately nicknamed, "The Sisters". I was also very fortunate to be able to attend a Choice Literacy conference in Wrentham, Massachusetts last summer where they were featured speakers.
CAFE is an acronym for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expanding Vocabulary.
In class, each student will declare a reading goal in one or more of the above categories. Students will receive instruction in reading strategies as a class, in small groups and individually.

There is also a link on that right hand side of that page called Parent Pipeline. At this link you can download suggestions on how to help your child at home with each of the comprehension strategies.
