On Friday we had Four Winds on Sound. Many thanks to Sara Kirby and Margaret McCoy for doing an awesome job. We saw a puppet play and then tried to guess what made the sounds that we heard. We learned about the parts of the ear and how the inner hairs can be damaged by loud music and not be able to be repaired. Next, we put rubber bands around wooden bowls and watched the vibrations and listened to sounds.
We used tuning forks to move colored sugar that was put on plastic wrap tightly put on a can and to make splashes in the water.
We listening to the tone changing from high to low when air was blown into a rootbeer bottle and then it changed from low to high when the sound traveled through the water in the bottle.
We used hangers and string to listen to vibrations and..
... cups and string to listen to words.
We also went outside and listened for sounds and heard our claps echo against the building.
Thank you Sara and Margaret!
